CENTRAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

There are few routes to become a CBI agent. The first is to qualify the SSC CGL exam with, which is a central level exam conducted by the government of India. All the lower division clerk recruitment for GROUP C and GROUP B to sub-inspector in CBI is done through SSC or the staff selection commission.

The staff selection commission’s CGL exam is conducted in 4th tiers in which the tier 1 and tier 2 are an online format whereas the tier 3 is an offline format and therefore is in computer skill test.

Tier1
General intelligence and reasoning, General awareness
Quantitative Aptitude, and English comprehension.

Tier2
Paper- 1 Quantitative Ability (100 questions)
Paper-2 Statistics(100 questions)
Paper-3 General Studies (Finance & Economics) (100 questions)
Paper-4 English Language and Comprehension (200 questions)

Each paper is of 200 marks, therefore the maximum marks to obtain is 200 each.

Tier3
A Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (Writing of Essay, Precis, Letter, Application etc.)

Exam consists of 100 marks

Tier4
It will be split into 2 parts: the DEST test and the CPT test. DEST requires you to write 2000 words on a computer in 15 minutes, whereas CPT assesses your ability in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Slide Generation.

The next method through which you can get the post of CBI officer is through the UPSC civil services exam. Through this exam, you will be directly getting the post to the CBI group A officer. You must pass this with high score to be considered for the Indian police services.

Again this exam is done in three levels that is, the prelims mains and the personal interview.

UPSC

The union public services commission civil services exams are conducted every year with three steps to clear it.

The first one is Prelims that has two papers, first of general studies and second of CSAT. The first paper tests your knowledge, the second paper tests your analytical skills and problem-solving assessment. In most cases, both the papers are given in two sessions on the same day through offline mode that is pen and paper mode.

The general studies one exam has 100 questions while the CSAT exam has 80 questions with both of them lasting upto two hours individually.

The Prelims is a qualifying exam with the next-level mains exam which is the key in making a place to the post. There will be a paper in the mains exam in which you have to write answers that consist of essays, short answers, long answers, etc.

After clearing the mains exam, you have to give the interview through a panel of a specialised officer which will test your personality and talents.
Once done, there will be accumulated marks of the mains and interview which will decide your ranking and then your post.
